  • What is window film?

Window film is a polyester base material, sometimes referred to as Polyethylene Butylene. This material starts out as a clear product with various metals, oxides, or nanoparticle technology added to it to block UV and infrared rays and glare from the sun. Window Tint USA installs 3M window films on the interior or exterior of glass surfaces in buildings, homes, vehicles, and boats to reduce heat, provide UV protection, block glare, reduce energy costs, and add a layer of security. 3MTM is a global leader in film and adhesive technologies.

As a pioneer in the industry, 3M holds the very first patent on window film and manufactures all the raw materials that go into their films. From start to finish, 3M controls the quality of their window tints and decorative architectural films. As a 3M certified installer, Window Tint USA is authorized to sell and install 3M’s industry-leading window tints and films with 3M’s comprehensive warranties.

  • Are window film and window tint the same thing?

Yes. It’s fine to say either one. In the industry, we refer to it as “film,” but most people say “window tint.” To learn more about our window tint services and window film products, get in touch with our excellent crew.

  • Can window film help me save money on my energy bills?

Yes, window film can help you save money on energy costs. When installed in residential and commercial buildings, window film reduces the amount of heat transferred through the windows in the summer, reducing the energy needed to cool the space.

In the winter, the window film can help keep heat in, reducing the energy needed to heat the space. According to 3M, their automotive window films provide an SPF factor of 1000. They also block up to 99.9% of UV rays and reject up to 80% of the sun’s heat. The exact amounts blocked and the amount of visible light blocked depends on the type and tint of the film you select.

  • Does window film stop fading?

Window Film will slow fading way down. A key reason why many homeowners have window tinting installed in their homes is to prevent fading. Window tints can protect your floors, rugs, furniture, cabinetry, and artwork from sun damage. High-quality 3M window tint and window films block UV rays and reduce heat transfer (the primary causes of fading), allowing you to enjoy natural light in your home.

  • Will window film work on my windows?

Window film will adhere to all glass and will have varying degrees of results depending on your situation. We offer free consultations to discuss your specific needs, but the answer is yes in nearly every case. You can expect window film to apply well to dual pane windows, tempered glass windows, and impact glass.

There is a type of 3M window film to suit your needs and the type of windows, doors, or solid surfaces that you want to cover. We can apply film to glass front doors, French doors, skylights, and various window types found in high-rise hotels and office buildings. Many glass manufacturers will only allow 3M window film on their glass and many Condo Association properties will only allow 3M prestige on their buildings. • How long does installation take?

Installations will vary in time. Per our experts, for sliding glass doors using a 2 ml sun control product, installation can take as little as three hours. Removal of existing film, smaller windows, and excessive calking from the glass manufacturer will add to the installation time. Vehicle and residential installations can often be completed in a day.

Larger homes may take longer and commercial projects will require custom estimates of the time needed to complete installation. We can usually work with your schedule and adjust it to fit your needs. In addition, window film can be installed either on the interior or exterior of your windows. We’ll help you determine what’s best for your needs and for the type of windows you have.
